WRWW seeks a Family Literacy Class Assistant to assist in facilitating the early learning classroom and parent-child learning times of the Family Literacy Class program. The FLC Assistant will assist the FLC Instructor and any other WR staff leading the class in implementing age-appropriate lessons for students, teaching, classroom management, parent communication and family engagement activities/events.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Serve as program assistant for the FLC children's class as well as parent-child learning times serving newly arrived families with children ages years of age
  • Assist with classroom set-up and clean-up
  • Assist with preparation for classroom activities, crafts, snacks, and other developmental activities
  • Assist staff on any field trips planned for FLC families and children
  • Keep classroom organized, clean, neat, and safe for children
  • Foster a positive and respectful learning environment, supporting children's social-emotional growth
  • Assist with completing any pre-/post-assessments for children and families
  • Communicate with and support volunteers on-site at Family Literacy Class
  • Maintain student records
  • Other related tasks as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to assist with implementing innovative curricula and help provide quality, engaging early learning activities and lessons in a culturally sensitive manner
  • Experience supporting children with individualized learning activities depending on each child's developmental level and need of support
  • Skilled at classroom management
  • Desire to serve children and their families as a whole unit for greater success for the whole family \
  • Experience successfully engaging caregivers in children's learning and development
  • Experience working with English Language Learner students
  • Ability to communicate effectively, professionally, collaboratively, and positively with children, caregivers, volunteers, and other staff
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Experience with kindergarten readiness and social and emotional development and support
  • Individuals with lived immigrant experience strongly encouraged to apply; language skills in Dari/Pashto much preferred

Requirements

  • Committed to the mission, vision, and values of World Relief
  • At least one year of experience in the early learning field, including direct service/teaching
  • First Aid/CPR certification required (or ability to quickly secure certification)
  • Get Food Handlers card
  • Demonstrated ability to work sensitively and effectively with children and families from a variety of cultural backgrounds required; previous experience working with immigrants and refugees preferred.
