WHAT YOU WILL DO

UES, Inc. (a BlueHalo company) has an opportunity available for a Research Scientist to join our collaborative multidisciplinary team at the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL). The research will involve modeling the mechanical and thermomechanical the behavior of composite materials across multiple length scales.

 

Experience in one or more of the following areas is desired:

  • Discrete damage modeling,
  • Material model integration
  • Modeling of woven and non-woven materials
  • Finite element methods
  • Statistical methods.
  • Experience with AI/ML methods
  • Experience working with mechanical test data

 

Strong communication skills and problem-solving skills are highly desirable.  We are particularly interested in a highly motivated, adaptable, and capable individual with a Ph.D. or Masters in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science or a related field.

WHAT QUALIFICATIONS YOU WILL BRING

  • Ph.D. (or to be completed in next 6 mos.) or a Masters combined with significant experience in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science or a related field
  • Expertise in thermomechanical modeling
  • Expertise in using computational tools, especially finite element methods for solid mechanics
  • Ability to learn and develop new approaches
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • This position will require a self-motivated individual with good interpersonal skills and careful attention to details
  • Adaptable to varying program objectives
  • This position is working within a government facility and requires U.S. Citizenship
