Position Definition:

The Elementary Assistant supports the Elementary Director and the district athletics department assisting in the organization of the elementary sports program for each school.  

 

Qualifications:

  • Understanding of the vision and mission of the district Elementary Sport program and the role it plays in education-based athletics. 
  • Experience coaching elementary level sports with Vancouver Public Schools.
  • Experience which demonstrates strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with students and parents who are culturally, racially, and linguistically diverse.
  • Available to work evening hours. 

Essential Functions:

 

  • Assist the Elementary Coordinator to coordinate season timelines, culminating event dates, and coaches meeting.
  • Attend seasonal coaches meetings.
  • Assist with seasonal skilleree events and area track meets.
  • Responsible for set up and breakdown of volleyball, basketball and track events.
  • Establish and maintain a safe and cooperative environment during activities.
  • Responsible for cleaning, storing, and maintaining inventory of all activity equipment.
  • Ability to coordinate with administration at host schools, organize and oversee volunteers for events.
  • Compile results of culminating events and communicate results to elementary schools and distribute place ribbons to participants.
  • Communicate effectively in both oral and written forms and work cooperatively in an effective and positive manner with diverse parties to include staff, students, parents, and community

 

  • Treat co-workers, supervisors, students, parents and others with dignity and respect at all times
  • Serve as a positive role model for students, and practice the behaviors that are expected of our students
  • Work in a flexible and cooperative manner
  • Regular attendance to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the position to achieve program requirements
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor

Working Conditions:

  • Work both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Ability to lift and move moderately sized objects up to 50 pounds

It is understood that the district has the right to transfer and assign employees to best fit the needs of the district.  Athletic Support employees appointed a position in any given school may be re-appointed to the same position for the subsequent school year without further posting.
