Mabton High School Head Girls Basketball Coach

Primary Function: 
A High School Head Girls Basketball Coach has the responsibility to help students develop skills and knowledge with
the districts athletic handbook and goals that will contribute to the students’ development as mature, able and
responsible adults. Head High School Girls Basketball Coaches are responsible for maintaining a safe environment on
and off campus. They are responsible for maintaining records of students and equipment. Commitment to uphold
policies and expectations of the school district.
Directly Responsible To: Athletic Director and School Administration
Description of Responsibilities:   
1. Serve as a positive role model to the players and parents
2. Teach Girls Basketball techniques, playing rules, strategies and playing tactics
3. Condition athletes appropriately for activities requiring endurance, strength and agility
4. Preside over team activities including all scheduled team practices and games
5. Teach sportsmanship, cooperation, work ethic and responsibility to one’s team
6. Monitor players; personal conduct during games
7. Manage equipment and playing facilities in a responsible manner
8. Performs related duties as required
9. Hold a valid first aid/CPR/AED card, comply with Mabton School District policy and procedures.
10. Demonstrated working knowledge of the above-mentioned sport
11. Demonstrated interest in and ability to work well with multicultural High School students,
staff and community
12. Promote the sport within WIAA guidelines and complete all required WIAA Coaches Clinics and requirements.
13. Inventory, selection, care, maintenance of equipment and play surfaces
14. Perform such other related duties as may be assigned by the Athletic Director and School Administration
15. Cultural Competency; ability to effectively work with diverse populations
Other Functions:
1. Follow oral and written instructions
2. Work cooperatively with other
3. Be neat, orderly and honest
4. Work weekdays, practice after school
5. Interpret policies and procedures
6. Travel with teams for matches during the week
7. Work with people of all ages
8. On a continuous basis, work indoors; intermittently travel to various off-site locations; may be exposed to dust,
noise, hard surfaces, and may be exposed to varying temperature conditions while performing work
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Ability to work well with children of various ages; basic knowledge of basketball
2. Willingness to learn and follow District rules and guidelines regarding youth sports
3. Prior head coaching experience is helpful but not required
4. Education/experience: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required
knowledge and skills is qualifying
5. Previous experience in coaching children in some type of sport
6. Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for
successful coaching performance
Minimum Qualifications: 
1. Completion of high school diploma or GED
2. Must be 21 years of age or older
3. Complete Washington State Patrol Criminal History background check
90 days at ____ hours per day Starting Wage: $4,826 Experienced Wage: $6,757

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
MENTAL DEMANDS
Required to deal with a wide range of student, staff and public behaviors and needs in a positive and service-oriented
manner. May occasionally deal with distraught or difficult students or parents.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Amount of standing, sitting, walking, bending, and twisting will vary depending on the age of students and classroom
assignments. Physical capabilities also require lifting and carrying (no more than 50 lbs.) pushing and/or pulling,
stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, twisting, and significant finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires
approximately 35% sitting, 35% walking, and 30% standing. Maintaining good hygiene is essential.
