WIC Manager/Dietician

Unit: Women Infant & Children

Division: Early Learning & Family Services

Reports to: Director Early Learning & Family Services

FLSA Class: Exempt

Job Type: Full Time

Salary: $7280-

POSITION SUMMARY

This position is responsible for the oversight of all KCR WIC Clinics, program operations including reporting to State WIC, budget, staff supervision and training. The WIC Manager also maintains a caseload of high risk participants and assumes duties of certifier as needed.

REQUIRED EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE

· Requires Registered Dietitian Credential, be a Certified Nutritionists, or have Master's Degree or higher in Food/Nutrition plus 3.5 years supervisory experience.

· Must be able to meet State WIC Certifier requirement

LICENSE(S) AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS:

· Valid Washington State Driver's License

· Current auto liability insurance and a reliable vehicle.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

· Must have ability to develop and implement group and individual nutrition education programs.

· Good verbal and written communication skills.

· Ability to work under pressure and time constraints.

· Must have concern for and understanding of low-income people.

· Knowledge of local resources that benefit the economically disadvantaged.

· Ability to pass a Washington State criminal history background check

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSBILITIES

LEADERSHIP

FINANCIAL

· Prepares, monitors, maximizes program budget

· Identifies and pursues opportunities for resource development

· Develops grant applications

· Conducts and complies data for the annual Nutrition Education expenditure report.

· Maintains relationships with funders and suppliers

INTERNAL OPERATIONS

· Manages the delivery of client services and the day to day operation of the program

· Maintains relationship with clients and understands client needs

· Reviews work unit plans and performance in terms of effectiveness and efficiency

· Ensures compliance with State and Federal regulations at all WIC sites

· Supervises employees

· Assists in the training, orientation, development and evaluation of employees

· Communicates KCR personnel policies and Board/Management decisions to employees

· Promotes a positive work environment

EXTERNAL OPERATIONS

· Promotes KCR to the community, its mission and values

· Assists in representing KCR in their program activity

· Networks with external sources to develop funding and business opportunities

· Participates in community organizations.

ADDITIONAL ESSENTIAL DUTIES

· Report to and accepts assignments from the ELFS Director and is responsible to the ELFS Director for the effective supervision of the WIC unit.

· Exemplifies excellent customer relations with program participants, visitors, and employees; and consistently demonstrates professionalism, including courtesy, friendliness, helpfulness, and respect.

· Assess nutritional status, including anthropometric measures, of high risk WIC participants and other participants as needed.

· Provides nutrition counseling for individuals within the WIC program identified as high risk. Develop, implement and evaluate nutrition care plans and monitor client progress.

· .

· Provides leadership in a Team environment addressing annual goals, objectives, and evaluation of the WIC Nutrition Education Plan.

· Participates in the development of unit policies and procedures.

· Participate in the review, selection and/or development of nutrition education materials for WIC clients, professional education, and outreach.

· Ensure knowledge of current nutrition/health research by attending workshops and education programs when possible. Attend appropriate state WIC sponsored and other WIC approved workshops or meetings.

· Assist in training and monitoring progress of paraprofessionals according to the Washington State Standards for Training Certifiers, to include the review of client charts done by uncertified paraprofessionals.

· Participates in the development of, and maintains, WIC client scheduling policies and procedures for WIC Certifiers and Clerks.

· Responsible for coordinating professional development for KCR's WIC Unit personnel.

· Develops and coordinates educational curriculum for individual customer counseling and group sessions.

· Develops and supports team building efforts within the WIC Program including regular in-service days, Early Learning and Family Services and KCR as an agency.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL/MENTAL FUNCTIONS

· Requires intermittent sitting, walking, twisting and bending.

· Occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.

· Requires accuracy, good communication, judgment, and the ability to remain calm and provide appropriate advice and information.

· Must be able to exhibit regular attendance.
