Grass Lake Elementary School is located in a natural setting in the southeast corner of the Kent School district.  Grass Lake serves a number of housing divisions and has an enrollment of approximately 410 students.  The regular teaching staff is supported by music and physical education specialists, a full-time librarian/technology specialist, dean of students, and an intervention/ELL teacher.  Special student needs are met through accommodations in the general ed classrooms, the resource room program, the school adjustment program, and the Odyssey Self-Contained Highly Capable program.  Grass Lake is a school that believes in teamwork, dedication, innovation, effective teaching practices, staff involvement in the decision-making process, and doing whatever it takes to help all students learn.  Active parent involvement is sought and appreciated.  Grass Lake has an active and supportive PTA. 
 
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: This position is part of the KAP bargaining unit.
 
ASSIGNMENT:   The purpose of this position is to provide instructional support to the librarian in an elementary school. Responsibilities typically include instruction of students, student discipline, planning, preparation of materials, and record keeping. This job involves supervision of student library helpers and computer cataloging and circulation of library materials.
 
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. AA degree, 90 quarter-hour college credits, OR ParaPro Assessment with a score of 461 or higher. (Transcripts or proof of parapro score must on file to be considered for an interview.)
  2. Proof of High School completion. Copy of diploma or transcripts must be on file at start of employment. College transcripts that specifically state completion of high school will be accepted in lieu of high school diploma.
 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
 
  1. Associates degree (AA) or 72 college level (Clvl) quarter-hour credits*. Transcripts must be on file to be considered for an interview. Completion of the ETS ParaPro Assessment test with a score of 461 or higher will be accepted in lieu of college credits. Proof of score must be on file. 
  2. Desire candidate with familiarity with Ameritech/Dynix library system.
  3. Prefer candidate with accurate keyboarding skills and attentiveness to details.
  4. Candidate must be flexible and work in a positive manner with students, staff and public.
  5. Previous experience working with students preferred
  6. Prefer candidate that is a team player, positive, with good communication skills.
  7. Ability to exhibit multicultural and ethnic understanding and sensitivity with the ability to communicate effectively with all cultural groups in the school community.
  8. Ability to communicate in another language.
  9. Desired characteristics are: flexibility; ability to organize ideas, time and materials to accomplish goals; enthusiasm; ability to express ideas clearly and understand concepts being discussed; ability to learn new ideas and skills; ability and willingness to develop favorable relationships with students; and willingness to model behavior deemed appropriate by the school district and the community.
 
*Federal law now requires that Paraeducators have a minimum of 72 quarter-hour college credits, an AA degree, or pass a rigorous exam to hold positions that receive federal funding.
