This announcement is for a full-time, permanent Communications Consultant 4 position and is Open Continuous, initial application review on July 8, 2024.

Salary does not reflect the 3% salary increase, effective July 1st.


Position Overview:

The Web Content Communications Consultant (CC4) at the Washington State Board of Nursing (WABON) is responsible for overseeing and enhancing communication strategies to promote WABON activities effectively. This includes managing web content using Drupal, handling internal and external communications, collaborating with various partners, and ensuring the consistent application of branding and communication standards. The role supports the organization's mission to safeguard public health by ensuring high-quality communication and information dissemination regarding the competence and quality of nursing practices.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Webpage Production and Content Management:
    • Design and coordinate WABON's webpages using Drupal.
    • Review and edit web content for clarity and adherence to guidelines.
    • Develop web guidelines and ensure their implementation.
    • Resolve webpage content issues and conduct annual reviews.
    • Utilize customer feedback and analytics to improve web content and user experience.
  • GovDelivery Management (Back-up):
    • Manage and edit subscriber notices.
    • Represent WABON on the GovDelivery Steering Committee.
  • Online Learning Modules (Back-up):
    • Collaborate to create, test, and publish online learning modules.
    • Ensure modules are user-friendly and up to date.
  • Review and Edit Materials for Publication:
    • Ensure Consistent Branding
    • Review materials for consistency in formatting, layout, and logo use.
    • Edit for plain talk, spelling, grammar, clarity, and visual appeal.
  • Proactive Communication:
    • Anticipate additional communication needs and take proactive measures.
    • Maintain a cohesive and polished image for WABON's communications across all platforms.

The Washington State Board of Nursing (WABON) is crucial in safeguarding public health and safety by overseeing the competence and quality of licensed practical nurses, registered nurses, advanced registered nurse practitioners, and nursing technicians. Work Location and Flexibility: 

This Flexible/Hybrid position is based in Tumwater, WA. Flexible/Hybrid positions offer a combination of work location options, including tele-work, in-person collaboration, and drop-in workstations at the Tumwater office. Employees will be supported in deciding where they do their best work.

Required Qualifications: 

Your qualifying experience can include paid or unpaid activities and may have been gained concurrently. Please make sure to include details in at least one of your application documents (resume, cover letter, or application) about how you meet the qualifications listed. 

  • Option 1: Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, journalism, humanities, public relations, or a related field.

OR


  • Option 2: Four (4) years of professional writing and editing experience.

AND the following: 


  • Two (2) years of experience using Drupal for web content management or a similar application (Omni CMS, Modern Campus, or WordPress). Web Content Management experience should include:
    1. Creating, editing, and organizing content such as articles, blogs, and pages.
    2. Managing user roles and permissions to control access to different parts of the website.
    3. Extending functionality through modules, which can add features like e-commerce, SEO, and more.
    4. Changing the look and feel of the site through themes.
    5. Creating workflows for content approval and publishing.
    6. Implementing security features to protect the site from vulnerabilities.
    7. Using HTML, CSS, and basic web design principles to build and manage web content.
    8. Using web analytics tools to monitor and improve webpage performance. 
  • One (1) year of experience in marketing, including developing and analyzing surveys to support communication strategies.

 

  • One (1) year of experience in the following:
    1. Experience using software such as Photoshop, Illustrator, or InDesign for graphic design or image editing, and/or creating marketing materials such as brochures, posters, and other visual content.
    2. Microsoft Word to create and format documents, letters, or reports, and manage document versions to collaborate with others.
    3. Microsoft Excel to enter and organize data, create or format spreadsheets, and use formulas, functions, or pivot tables for data analysis.
    4. Microsoft PowerPoint to design and create visual presentations incorporating text, images, charts, and/or animations.

Desired Qualifications:

  • One (1) year of experience in planning, organizing, and executing communication or public relations activities.
  • Two (2) years of experience with advanced functionalities of CMS platforms, including custom module development and theme customization.
  • Two (2) years of experience as a web designer or content manager.
  • Certifications such as Acquia Certified Developer or similar CMS-related certifications.
  • Familiarity with JavaScript, PHP, and MySQL.
  • Knowledge of SEO best practices and web accessibility standards to ensure content is optimized and accessible to all users.
  • Understanding of branding principles and experience in maintaining consistent branding across various communication materials.
  • Experience in strategic public relations, including media relations, crisis communication, and stakeholder engagement.

Conditions of Employment/Working Conditions:
