Job Summary
The primary responsibilities of Safety and Security Officer is to improve school safety, create a positive school climate and build positive relationships with students through:

Greeting students during the school day
Provide campus safety and supervision duties
Reinforcement of school-wide expectations
Collaboration with school staff to develop and support behavior interventions
Support administration with discipline incidents and investigations
Proactive participation in school-based threat assessment teams

Essential Duties
Patrols and monitors assigned areas of the school buildings, grounds and parking lots to deter, detect, report and stop violations of the law and/or school board policies.
Detects, investigates and reports unauthorized or suspicious persons, vehicles and activities.
Assists administrators and staff in crisis and emergency situations.
Supervises and directs student movement on campus.
Notifies the administrative staff, police, fire department, or other appropriate authorities of security or emergency situations.
Conducts searches when directed to do so.
Investigates student violations of school board policies/student handbook and prepares reports results to appropriate administrator.
Works with school administrators and law enforcement officials in handling serious student offenses and law violations.
Testifies in court and at School Board hearings as required.
Assists with fire drills and other emergency building evacuations.
Supervises classroom behavior in lieu of faculty.
Attends and successfully completes all staff development training as required by state law or directed by the Supervisor(s).
Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
Performs other related duties as assigned by the principal or other appropriate administrator.
Daily schedule is 8:00am-3:30pm with required breaks.
Pay is based on the current PSE agreement.
180 days per year with extra days for training to be determined.
Must pass a valid Washington State background check.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required)
Must possess a high school diploma (or equivalency) with at least three years of experience in school security or any equivalent combination of education and experience that would provide the noted knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must possess knowledge of, and the ability to apply, standard security procedures and best practices. Must possess the ability to acquire knowledge of the student handbook and school board policies and procedures. Security experience in a public school setting desired. Must have basic computer skills using Microsoft Office programs. Must possess excellent people skills.

Work Environment
Duties are normally performed inside a school/classroom environment and outdoors in all
weather conditions.
