Part-Time Accounting Clerk

Job Summary:

The Accounting Clerk is responsible for assisting with both clerical and administrative tasks that involve reporting, bookkeeping, research, as well as the resolution of discrepancies related to any of the tasks he or she performs. The Accounting Clerk will work closely with the Accounting Department to provide support to customers and management in order to maximize the company’s Accounting goals and objectives.

 

Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

  • Provide accounting and clerical support to the accounting department, with correspondence, various research projects and/or special projects, as needed.
  • Provide support to research, track and restore accounting or documentation problems and
  • Perform customer service functions by answering general questions about accounting policies and procedures.
  • Assist with data entry and reconciliation.
  • Check statements and call vendors with any discrepancies.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

 

  • A working environment consists of an office workspace which is conditioned but may encounter various degrees of heat or cold, light and dust.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position more than 90% of the time.
  • Must have the manual dexterity to continually use a computer keyboard and mouse, calculator, and phone; as well as other office productivity machinery, such as a printer and copy machine.
  • The person in this position needs to be able to occasionally move about inside the office to access filing cabinets, office machinery, etc.
  • May infrequently move or lift boxes (g. paper, office supplies, etc.) weighing up to approximately 25 pounds.

 

Required Cognitive and Psychological Characteristics:

  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Excellent organization and administration skills with a proven ability to multi-task and manage changing priorities.
  • Ability to act responsibly and ethically when working with sensitive financial information, whether it’s information for the company and/or for individuals.
  • Computer literacy, as accounting clerks are responsible for keying information into various computers and software programs.
  • Solid communication skills, with proficiency in speaking and writing.
  • Strong people skills – a polite and professional demeanor when working with other companies, as well as coworkers.

 

Required Credentials:

  • One to two years of accounting experience, preferably as an Accounts Payable Clerk or Accounting Clerk
  • Solid understanding of basic bookkeeping and accounting principles.
  • Ability to calculate, post and manage accounting figures.
  • Computer knowledge including Microsoft Word, and Excel is preferred.
