Job Title: Human Resource Consultant 4 (HRC4) Workplace Claims & Accommodation Unit / In-Training
Location: Olympia, WA / Hybrid
Closes:  June 13th, 2024
Salary:  $5,341.00 to $7,932.00 Monthly
Note: This position has been designated as "In-Training" and may be filled at the HRC3 or HRC4 level. The 12-month in-training plan is intended to provide an opportunity for an individual to gain the required experience on the job as part of a formal “in-training” plan. Upon successful completion of an in-training program, the incumbent will advance to the goal classification of HRC4.

The Opportunity:
As a senior member of the Workplace Claims & Accommodation Unit (WACU), you will report to the Workplace Claims and Accommodation (WCAU) Manager. This position serves as a subject matter expert for complex reasonable accommodation cases, workplace claims, and assault benefits.  This position facilities WCAU programs in order to enhance deployment of DCYF’s workforce so they can protect children and youth and enable families to flourish.  

Some of what you'll do:
  • Analyze and interpret complex and sensitive medical information involving reasonable accommodation cases.
  • Provide advice and consultation to agency leadership and employees.
  • Act as a liaison between the agency, health care providers, and L&I representatives.
  • Create and maintain legally defensible and binding documentation for reference in future legal proceedings.
  • Manage a caseload of complex work-related illness/injury claims.
  • Advocate with agency leadership for transitional temporary duty assignments.
  • Process claim correspondence.
  • Monitor and apply for benefits when claims meet criteria for Stay at Work (SAW) or Preferred Worker employer reimbursement.
  • Provide education and resources to agency employees, supervisors and managers regarding the Assault Benefits program.
  • Review incident description to identify possible eligibility for Assault Benefits and coordinate application submission with employees and management.
Required Qualifications:
To be hired at the HRC4 level:
  • Five (5) years of professional human resource experience that includes three (3) years of managing a caseload of Reasonable Accommodation cases.
OR
  • Bachelor’s degree with a focus in business, human resources, or related field AND
    three (3) years of professional human resource experience that includes two (2) years of managing a caseload of reasonable accommodation cases.   
To be hired at the HRC3 level (with a one-year in-training plan):
  • Five (5) years of professional human resource experience that includes at least one (1) year of reasonable accommodation experience.
OR
  • Bachelor’s degree with a focus in business, human resources, or related field AND three (3) years of professional human resource experience that includes one (1) year of reasonable accommodation experience.  
This position also requires the following knowledge, skills and abilities: 
  • Skilled in communicating complex concepts orally and in writing.
  • Skilled in organizing and prioritizing multi-layered projects with conflicting timelines.
  • Ability to communicate respectfully and effectively with diverse groups of people.
  • Ability to handle shifting priorities and switch directions quickly while maintaining a calm, professional attitude.
In addition to those required qualifications, our ideal applicant will also have some or all of the following: 
  • Experience in working with health care providers.
  • Experience providing information for internal and external complaints along with information requests.
