ESY Special Education Paraeducator(s) IV Summer 2024 (Temporary)

POSITION OBJECTIVE:

The position of ESY Special Education Paraeducator(s) Temporary Summer is responsible for providing a wide variety of paraeducator assistance and support to special education students who exhibit behaviors that interfere with their learning, including implementing components of ESY Individual Education Programs (IEP's). This paraeducator will participate in ongoing collaboration with ESY Teachers in shared responsibility for implementation of behaviors that interfere with student learning. Positions at this level perform under the general supervision of the student’s case manager, and are fully trained to perform procedures independently, at all levels of student ability, with minimal direction.

Extended School Year (ESY) Program Dates: 
Elementary at Stevenson Elementary - 8:15am to 11:45am (July 1-3 Mon-Wed and July 8-25 Mon-Thurs)

 

Secondary at Highland Middle School - 8:15am to 12:45pm (July 8-25 Mon-Thurs)

 

Orientation June 28 from 8:30am to 12:30pm and classroom setup date/time negotiated with ESY teacher.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)

 

• Provides for the physical, health and safety needs of students.
• Provides social, emotional, behavioral and educational support for students with significant disabilities.
• Provides direct academic, functional, vocational and specifically-designed instruction.
• Serves as advocate and support of students with disabilities in their least restrictive environment.
• Supports students with significant emotional regulation challenges.
• Encourages and fosters student independence in all settings.
• Collects functional behavior assessment data on individual students.
• Implements components of Individual Education Programs (IEP's) as required.
• Ensures the safety of students and staff when dealing with escalated behavior.
• Collects other data as directed by the case manager (teacher).
• Models the use of replacement strategies/redirection and the utilization of self-monitoring systems when implementing behavior supports for students with behavioral challenges.
• Provides coaching and support for staff as required for the position.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.


REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:


• Reports directly and supervised by the ESY lead team, including ESY administrators and ESY coordinators. Receives direction from assigned certificated staff.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (positions in this class typically require):

Required:

• High school graduation or equivalent and
• And have at least one of the following: 

  • ETS Paraeducator Assessment, or
  • Have an Associate of Arts degree (original transcripts), or
  • Have earned 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at an institution of higher education (original transcripts), or
  • Have completed a registered apprenticeship program (certificate);
  • Foreign degrees accepted if evaluated by a NACES member company.

Preferred:

• Experience working individually with students with diverse aptitudes and levels of achievement and with behaviorally disabled students.

• Able to provide proper physical restraint of students with severe behavior that poses a danger to themselves or others
• Demonstrates multicultural sensitivity with the ability to effectively and collaboratively work with diverse populations
• Ability to perform all duties in accordance with all applicable Board policies and district and legal requirements
• Ability to meet and maintain punctuality and attendance expectations
• Ability to demonstrate effective written and oral communication

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Positions in this class typically require: stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.

Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of forces constantly to move objects. Employee may be subject to testing to determine ability to meet the lifting requirements.

Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, odors, chemicals, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, and intense noises.

AISP salary classification 4 ($ 29.37 per hour), assignment hours and dates listed above. This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement.
