In this Human Resource Consultant 2 role, you will provide professional-level consultation to administrators, managers, supervisors, and employees on a wide variety of sensitive, complex, and critical human resource subjects including areas of appointments, classification, compensation, benefits, hiring, reasonable accommodations, layoff/reversion processes, and protected leaves.

Please note: This is a hybrid position. You will be working in-office 2-3 days per week, dependent on business needs.

Some of what you'll do

  • As a HR Consultant, you will provide advice and guidance regarding various types of leave and will oversee the administration and determination of the Agency's responsibilities under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Family Care Act (FCA), shared leave, and other protected leave laws
  • Consult on classification issues, and work with managers and supervisors regarding the development of Position Descriptions
  • Provide guidance regarding personnel/payroll actions in accordance with governing Washington Administrative Codes (WAC's), Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBA's), and DSHS Administrative Policies, Practices, and Procedures
  • Consult and process all incoming and outgoing paperwork for employees, appointment letters, provide New Employee onboarding, maintain, and offboard the staff
  • Provide information to affected employees to help them understand their rights and responsibilities under-protected leave laws, and calculate eligibility and qualification for leave
  • Listen, understand, and communicate issues effectively in multiple formats, while evaluating options and courses of action, and analyze issues to completion with a clear understanding of goals and outcomes
  • Conduct training individually or in a group setting, on a variety of HR topics
 
Who should apply?
Those with a Bachelor's degree with a focus on business, human resources, social or organizational behavioral sciences, or a related field and one year of professional human resource experience.

Equivalent education/experience.

Preferred knowledge, skills, & abilities
  • Have a working knowledge of Federal and State laws related to HR 
  • Effectively communicates verbally and in writing, to provide guidance to supervisors, management, and employees
  • Can prioritize and effectively manage multiple tasks
  • Meets deadlines while working with constant interruptions
  • Ability to critically analyze problems/data, and develop viable solutions
  • Organizes time and resources to achieve deadlines and goals
  • Effectively delivers HR training &/or programs
  • Comfortable being a collaborative member of a diverse team
  • Researches complex HR-related data using HRMS and other resources
