JOB DESCRIPTION
This position has the responsibility for all aspects of campus safety and school security needs. Employee is to maintain an orderly and safe school environment for students and staff.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent
  2. Must present transcripts of highest level of education within thirty (30) days of hire.
  3. Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
  4. Must be able to meet the Physical Demands of the position.
  5. May be required to pass a basic skills test.
  6. Completion of Safe Schools Web Based Training within thirty (30) days of hire and yearly thereafter.
  7. Must pass a background check, which includes employee paid fingerprinting.
  8. Must have a clean driving record, a valid Washington driver’s license and personal transportation with appropriate automobile insurance.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

  1. Must uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures.
  2. Must take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
  3. Must attend in-service trainings or other meetings as required, as well as attend any training as directed by management.
  4. Evidence of ability to assess and correct issues involving safety.
  5. Evidence of ability to establish and maintain a tactful, cooperative and effective relationship with students, parents, staff, fellow employees and management.
  6. Evidence of ability to approach assigned work in a professional manner, working toward the common goal of teamwork, pride in service delivery and continuous improvement.
  7. Must demonstrate sufficient command of the English language to communicate verbally and in writing with students, parents, district staff members and other concerned people regarding all aspects of their job related activities.
  8. Must be able to use basic computer programs to maintain records, enter timecard information and read and respond to email.
  9. Demonstrated capability to write clear and correct investigative reports.
  10. Competency with networked computer systems and an ability to use such software programs as Microsoft Office and School Systems.
  11. Ability to manage unpredictable situations; be flexible, diplomatic, cooperative and patient; while maintaining enthusiasm and exercising good judgment in difficult situations.
  12. Possess current first aid card/CPR card or willingness to acquire one.
  13. Positive evaluations and recommendations that support character and work ethic.
  14. Excellent attendance, punctuality, and dependability; evidence of ability to be self-disciplined and a self-starter.
  15. Strong interpersonal skills, conflict resolution capabilities, ability to collect objective data, diffuse tense situations, and mediate conflicts.
  16. Strong verbal and written communication skills.

QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED

  1. Bilingual English Spanish.
  2. AA or BA degree or equivalent.
  3. Previous security and/or police related experience within the past three (3) years.
  4. Successful experience working with secondary-aged students within the last three years.

JOB DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Be a visible presence throughout the campus (including inside buildings, parking lots, and play fields where students congregate) and near campus community areas.
  2. Investigate student behavior and discipline matters. Assist in disciplinary actions as requested and/or required.
  3. Write reports and communicate with parents, students, and staff about student management issues.
  4. Manage initial student discipline procedures, including detention, campus cleanup, and after school intervention.
  5. Work interactively with high school Police Student Resource Officer as needed.
  6. Actively participate in the school’s student behavior committee to set and review building policies and procedures.
  7. Use strong interpersonal skills to diffuse situations and reduce tension.
  8. Model appropriate adult behavior and talk.
  9. Lock and unlock buildings daily.
  10. Check I.D. badges of people entering the building.
  11. Maintain visibility and be immediately available for assisting staff and students in routine and emergency situations.
  12. Investigate all reported law violations and complete written incident reports as may be appropriate.
  13. Confront intruders and report all observed violations (trespassers, truants, and law violators) to the appropriate administrator.
  14. Work cooperatively with other staff in maintaining a safe, orderly environment for all.
  15. Conduct student mediations and interventions as needed.
  16. Assist in supervising and maintaining order at after-school activities, dances, and athletic events as assigned.
  17. Nurture and give attention to students with special needs.
  18. Work effectively within a context with multicultural and at-risk students.
  19. Support the building’s extra-curricular program.
  20. Perform all duties of the position within the scope of Kennewick School District policies and procedures, including regular attendance and punctuality.

  1. Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret policies, procedures, applicable law. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and incident reports. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups or individuals representing managers, customers and the general public.
  2. Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, fractions, and decimal numbers.
  3. Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions.Ability to interpret variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  4. Technology Skills: Capable or able to learn the programs necessary to the position and commonly used in the building: Outlook (calendar and email), Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, ExacqVision (video surveillance system).

  • Sense:The employee is required to talk/hear conversations and other sounds. The employee must be able to communicate effectively in person and over the telephone.   • Lifting:The employee must be able to lift or move up to 18-26 pounds; must also be able to lift overhead. The employee may be required to physically move quickly in an emergency or while performing student supervision duties.
