Bilingual District Receptionist/Clerk II

PURPOSE: 

The purpose of this position is to support specific teachers, specialists, and students in general education classrooms with tiered interventions for behavior.  This position will be working specifically with the management of tier 2 and 3 identified students with significant behaviors, supporting teachers in the implementation of behavior support plans, and collaborating alongside Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) coaches. 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Assist MTSS coaches to assess the needs of specific students and assist with the development of behavior support plans.
  • Provide support for the teacher and other school staff as they implement behavior supports. Track fidelity and effectiveness of interventions/supports.
  • Work with teams consisting of teacher, administrators, counselors, behavior interventionists, and MTSS coaches to determine appropriate intervention strategies for students.
  • Travel to/from schools to work with instructional teams on the design and implementation of learning and behavior plans for students with specific emotional and physical needs.
  • Utilize multiple forms of data collection to monitor student behavior progress and provide reports to behavior management teams.
  • Demonstrate appropriate, legal techniques and aversive interventions to teachers and paraeducators to better manage severe behavior issues. Model behavior expectations for students.
  • Collaborate with school/district staff including safety officers to de-escalate and diffuse situations arising from student behavior.
  • Collaborate with the teacher to adapt classroom assignments/environments so that the student may participate in classroom activities as fully as possible.

 

 

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Assist with planning and delivering trainings for various district staff.
  • Supporting the implementation of Social Emotional Learning curriculum in the classroom.
  • Supporting universal/tier one behavior strategies schoolwide and in classrooms.
  • Collaborate effectively with members of the Student and Family Support Services team and other district office communities.
  • Carry out activities with students as trained and directed by the MTSS coaches.
  • Participate in meetings with district staff, students, and families.
  • Support the coordination of mental health screenings.
  • Collect and provide data for the Tiered Fidelity Inventory.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must demonstrate a successful level of the knowledge, skills and abilities listed below:

  • Ability to build strong relationships with students and staff.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • Ability to speak additional languages preferred.
  • Ability to remain calm in difficult/high stress situations.
  • Experience working with students with behavior needs including students who have significant physical/emotional/behavioral limitations.
  • Experience using restorative practices.
  • Skill in collecting and analyzing data and assisting in determining the course of action based on data.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to various sites throughout the district.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team situation.
  • Ability and willingness to work as part of a collaborative team.
  • Ability to work under the direction of multiple people with various leadership styles.
  • Ability to acquire and maintain a CPR/First Aid card (within the first 30 days of employment.)
  • Ability and willingness to use Crisis Prevention Institute CPI or Right Response training strategies, including physical restraints once trained.
  • Ability to work independently, and to independently learn operations, procedures, processes, and use of equipment, especially computers.
  • Ability to exercise sound, independent judgment, including handling of confidential matters.
  • Ability to keep work organized and carry out duties effectively and efficiently, including the ability to appropriately set priorities.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, with courtesy and respect.
  • Ability to be flexible and to adapt to changes in plans or activities on short notice.

 

 

 

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:

 

Works closely with teacher and certificated specialists under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Student and Family Support.  Interacts daily with students, school staff, and to varying degrees with parents.  Interacts with district program staff.  May interact with school bus drivers, other district support staff and representatives from community-based organizations.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The employee is located at the administration center but travels throughout the district to many sites to work with instructional staff in various programs. Assignments at particular sites may vary from several days to several months at a time. The work requires significant data management and reporting. The employee may be exposed to infectious diseases.  Regular attendance at job site is required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or equivalent plus two years of study at an institution of higher learning; or an associate’s or higher degree; or has met a rigorous standard of quality and can demonstrate, through a formal state or local academic assessment, knowledge of and ability to assist in the development and planning of educational programs for students with behavioral needs.

LICENSING AND CERTIFICATION:

 

Valid Washington Driver’s License

EVALUATION:

Evaluation responsibilities are assigned to the Assistant Director of Student and Family Support Services.
