Required Qualifications:
1. Educational Staff Associate Certificate for school counseling.

2. Satisfactory Evaluations

3. Must Pass STAMP Test


Preferred Qualifications:
1. Training and/or experience in elementary education which demonstrates knowledge of effective parent communication techniques, basic skills development, alternative learning experiences, multicultural awareness and dealing with issues of poverty.
2. Evidence of recent successful K-5 classroom or counseling experience.
3. Training and experience for working with both individual students and groups.
4. Knowledge of child abuse/neglect reporting procedures.
5. Ability to demonstrate through verbal and non-verbal behavior a warm and caring personality, a sense of humor, and a positive, enthusiastic approach to working with students, parents and staff.
6. Knowledge of community resources in order to develop an appropriate counseling program at the building level.
7. Knowledge of character education, PSR and/or social skills programs (i.e. Skills for Growing, Second step) plus other programs applicable to the counseling program.
8. Punctual and consistent attendance.

Job Description:
1. Establish a counseling program with the guidelines specified by the State of Washington.
2. Work closely with the principal to implement building counseling goals.
3. Provide individual and small group counseling services for children.
4. Provide observations, consultation and classroom presentation services for building teachers.
5. Counsel with students and work with parents regarding academic progress and behavior.
6. Attend and participate in parent/teacher conferences as needed.
7. Participate as a member of the multidisciplinary team (MDT).
8. Act as team leader for the Student Assistance Team (SAT).
9. Coordinate student services between school and community social agencies.
10. Work with local community health and social services agencies to improve referral process and coordination of services for district students.
11. Develop and provide leadership with building character education, PSR and at-risk intervention programs.
12. Organize and conduct parenting skills workshops.
13. Act as attendance officer, monitoring student attendance, conferencing with students and parents and working with the building principal to report district and state attendance policy violations.
14. Serve as an active representative to the district AODA committee and coordinate building AODA activities.
15. Act as building Section 504 manager to implement the requirements of IDEA, Sec. 504, and ADA in the education of students with disabilities.
16. Support the academic programs of the school through active participation in the reading program and/or other areas assigned by the principal.
17. Work collaboratively with the principal to facilitate academic assessment programs.
18. Document and maintain ongoing communication with staff regarding individual student progress.
19. Maintain professional competence through inservice and related professional growth opportunities.
20. Refer students to social agencies as required by law.
21. Maintain confidentiality.
22. Other duties as assigned.

**COMPLETION OFSAFE SCHOOLS WEB BASEDTRAINING IS REQUIRED AS A CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT**

Application Procedure: In-District staff must complete an internal online application by 10:00 p.m. (PST) on or before the closing date. In-building/In-district staff will have eight school days, or eight working days during the summer to apply for a vacant position through the online application system. The employee may choose but will not be required to meet with the building administrator to understand the building practices, procedures and initiatives specific to the position to which they are applying. After eight days if an in-building employee is qualified for the position, the principal will offer the employee the position. In the case that more than one in-building employee is interested in a position, the position will be offered to the qualified and senior employee. If a position is not filled in-building after the eight day period, the position will be offered to the qualified, most senior in-district applicant, if any. Teachers with a summative evaluation score of 1 or 2 are not eligible to transfer unless agreed upon by the District and Association.

Out-of-District applicants must complete the online District application and attach a letter of interest, resume, valid Washington state teaching credential, and copies of transcripts with degree posted. All hires are subject to completion of a satisfactory criminal background check.
