Required Qualifications:

  1. Washington State Teaching Certification appropriate for Elementary School Level
  2. Endorsements in SpecialEducation
  3. Satisfactory Evaluations

PreferredQualifications:

  1. Washington State Teacher’s Certificate Appropriate for elementary students with different disability conditions including behavior disorders.
  2. Knowledge of and ability to apply District policy and procedures.
  3. Evidence of successful teaching experience with elementary special education students, within the last five years.
  4. Experience and training in selection and utilization of caried teaching styles and methods to meet student’s needs.
  5. Experience and/ or training in
    • Implementing “in classroom: models of classroom services (inclusive integrated model of instruction)
    • Team teaching and the sharing of facilities and resources.
    • Evidence of successful experience supervising and working with a paraeducator in the classroom.
    • Experience using adopted program building and KSD curricula.
  6. Punctual and consistent attendance

Job Description:

Responsible for the education programing for disabled students in 4 and 5 grade. Areas of emphasis may include instruction in ELA, Math, Science, Social Skills, and Study Skills. This school will serve children from all ethnic and socio-economic levels.

The teacher will be expected to:

  1. Organize IEP meetings and provide appropriate assessments of students.
  2. Plan appropriate programs for students in conjunction with IEP Team members for a wide range of disabled students.
  3. Write goals and objectives that facilitate and measure student growth.
  4. Maintain proper records and facilitate necessary paperwork and forms.
  5. Communicate on a regular and frequent basis with parents and teacher.
  6. Assume responsibility for productive use of a classroom paraprofessional
  7. Consult with and work closely with regular education teachers and other specialists in a team.
  8. Select and utilize teaching styles, methods, and activities that meet the needs of individual students.
  9. Adapt and adjust curriculum: manage time effectively.
  10. Plan for and accommodate different learning styles.
  11. Work effectively with students individually, in small and in large groups.
  12. Work cooperatively in a team-teaching situation sharing facilities and resources.
  13. Appreciate the confidential nature of his/her work.
  14. Work with students in a positive and enthusiastic manner.
  15. Implement the requirements of IDEA, Section 504, and ADA in the education of Students with disabilities.
  16. Experience and/or training to work with and understand students with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHA) and other associated disorders.
  17. Experience in teaming with general classroom teachers, special education teachers, IEP Teams (Including those of other elementary schools), and community agencies to develop programs for students with behavior disorders.
  18. Successful experience in supervising and working with a paraeducator as classroom support personnel.
  19. Other duties as assigned.

Lifting:The employeemust beable to lift or move up to50 lbs. regularly and occasionally up to100 lbs; must also be able to lift overhead. The employeemay berequired to physically move quickly in an emergency or while performing student supervision duties.

**COMPLETION OFSAFE SCHOOLS WEB BASEDTRAINING IS REQUIRED AS A CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT**

Application Procedure: In-District staffmust complete an internal online application by10:00 p.m. (PST) on or before the closing date.In-building/In-district staff will have eight school days, or eight working days during the summer to apply for a vacantpositionthrough the online application system. The employee may choose butwill not berequired to meet with the building administrator to understand the building practices,procedures,and initiatives specific to thepositionto which they are applying. After eight days if an in-building employeeis qualifiedfor theposition, the principal will offer the employee theposition. In the case that more than one in-building employeeis interestedin aposition, thepositionwill be offeredto the qualified and senior employee. If apositionis not filled in-building after theeight-dayperiod, thepositionwill be offeredto the qualified, most senior in-district applicant, if any. Teachers with asummativeevaluation score of 1 or 2 are not eligible to transfer unless agreed upon by the District and Association.

Out-of-District applicantsmust complete the online District application and attach a letter of interest, resume, valid Washington state teaching credential, and copies of transcripts with degree posted. All hires are subject to completion of a satisfactory criminal background check.
