POSITION TITLE: HUMAN RESOURCES & Volunteer ASSISTANT
STATUS: FULL TIME, NON-EXEMPT
SUPERVISOR: HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGER

SCOPE OF POSITION:
The Human Resource & Volunteer Assistant will be responsible for exercising judgment, confidentiality, and discretion with Human Resources policies and procedures covering administrative issues, employee guidelines, employee benefits, training programs, and administration of HR for the Spokane Citadel Corps. This position will require you to recruit volunteers to ensure success with all events. The HR & Volunteer Assistant must be able to inter-relate with all staff members and volunteers in a professional and caring manner while advocating for the Mission of The Salvation Army Spokane.
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:
AA in Business Administration or related field and/or three years of professional human resources experience. Professional Certification will also be considered.
Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Knowledge of Federal and State employment law, FLSA labor law, and HR policies and procedures
Demonstrated knowledge of Employee Development plans
Demonstrated knowledge of Progressive Corrective Action models
Demonstrated knowledge of hard copy and digital records management
Demonstrated knowledge of onboarding and I-9 verification process
Demonstrated superior written/verbal communications skills; strong, positive interpersonal skills
Manage multiple tasks in an organized, efficient, and accurate manner
Work effectively with all levels of employees and volunteers, as an individual or with a team
Understand effective leadership and supervision philosophies
Demonstrated professionalism, confidentiality, and objectivity
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and maintain poise under pressure
Proficiency in Microsoft Suite, to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
Pass a Motor Vehicle Records check in compliance with The Salvation Army's policy
Must be 21 years of age
Must possess a valid Driver's License
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
Human Resources
Maintain relationships with outside agencies, universities, and other recruitment sources; participate in local job fairs, as needed
Manage job postings, evaluate candidates, prepare for and conduct interviews, as needed
Organize and maintain hard copy/digital personnel records and HR files
Maintain the security of proprietary business records and information
Conduct and track employee Orientation/Onboarding
Provides administrative support to the HR department
Understand and provide support for the progressive corrective action process
Provide support for employee relations in the absence of the Human Resources Manager by taking written statements and communicating issues with Divisional Headquarters Human Resources
Assist with special events (Backpacks for Kids, Adopt-A-Family, Clothe-a-Child, fundraising, etc.)
Volunteer Stewardship
Actively recruit volunteers from the public, service organizations, businesses and churches to help support The Salvation Army's various needs, events and programs
Effectively utilize volunteer management software (VMS)
Create and manage a volunteer database to record volunteer contact information and participation
Develop numerous means to convey acknowledgement, appreciation, and recognition for volunteer services rendered
Organize and maintain hard copy/digital volunteer records
Recruit and organize volunteers for special activities such as but not limited to:
Backpacks For Kids
Toy Drives
Thanksgiving Meal
Celebrate the Season
Shop with a Cop
Clothe a Child
Christmas Events
Any other event assigned by the Corps Officers
Assist with setup of special events, to include transportation of TSA supplies
Performs other duties as assigned
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis
Grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead
Operate a telephone
Operate a desktop or laptop computer
Lift up to 25 lbs. (usually file boxes)
Access and produce information from a computer
Understand written information

Health Insurance: Low bi-weekly premiums for employee-only coverage, Kaiser HMO for those residing in a Kaiser service area, Anthem EPO/PPO is available for those residing outside a Kaiser service area. Life and Voluntary Options. An employer-paid life insurance policy covers employees. Voluntary supplemental life, short-term and long-term disability plans are available.
Retirement Plans: Employer-funded Money Purchase Pension Plan (Defined Contribution Plan) 50% vested at five years eligible service time. Plus, an employee-funded voluntary 403(b) option.
Parental Leave: The benefit is 40 hours of Paid Leave for qualifying events.
Sick Leave: 12 days of Sick Leave annually accruing from day one, eligible for use after three months' service time.
Paid Vacation:
Two weeks annually, accruing from day one, for non-exempt positions.
Four weeks annually, accruing from day one, for exempt positions.
Accrued vacation is eligible for use after six months' service time.
Paid Holidays: 13 designated holidays + 1 floating holiday per year
