Job Summary
The prepress technician pre-flights, repairs, imposes files for output and prepares plates for the press. The prepress technician also maintains the prepress equipment and work area.
This is not a creative position. We are looking for someone who is very efficient and accurate at prepping customer art for print.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Read and follow job ticket instructions.
- Ensure all tickets are accurate and reflect the customer PO/Order.
- Maintain high level of quality, accuracy and productivity.
- Inspect and correct customer supplied art files for color, resolution, and printability.
- Identify areas of concern in customer supplied art files and recommend or apply adjustments.
- Communicate order problems or requests with other employees as needed.
- Preflight, imposition pages, create proofs, and produce plates focusing on quality.
- Save, file, and name digital assets based on PPC filing standards.
- Read, write, and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written and oral instructions.
- Troubleshoot and repair prepress equipment including basic PC issues and plate setter misfeeds.
- Work under and meet multiple deadlines with minimal direction.
- Change tasks and direction quickly depending on business needs.
- Responsible for maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
- Assist with various project insertion, labeling, strapping, etc. as needed and as time allows.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
- High level of accuracy, exceptional organization skills and keen attention to detail
- Working knowledge of graphic arts software (ex. Acrobat, InDesign, Pitstop)
- Operator must be proficient in basic file preparation for printing processes
- Knowledge of color separations, screens, dot gain and resolution
- Ability to accurately check files for color separations, fonts, links, document size, etc.
- Must have ability to take written and/or verbal direction.
- A good attitude and the ability to work well with others
Work Environment
Most hours spent sitting at a computer, occasionally getting up to load and punch plates. Concrete floors and variable temperatures. After training, this is a self directed evening shift with minimal coworker interaction.
Physical Demands
Must be able to lift 50 lbs. Must be able to spend most time viewing a computer screen. Must have high visual acuity with excellent color perception with or without corrective lenses.
Work Schedule
Typically, 20 hours per week. Due to the nature of this position, hours will vary in order to accomplish the required tasks and may require coming in early, staying late, or working weekends. It is critical that the person in this position be reliable/have reliable transportation.
