At a glance! The costumer creates and/or gathers wardrobes for actors for quarterly drama productions. As costumer you must be very creative and experienced in different garment types and styles as you help interpret each script. Advanced sewing skills are required along with the ability to compile visual representations of costumes for collaboration with the drama department’s production team. You will construct and fit wardrobes for cast members within deadlines; maintain costumes during and after the run of each show.

Examples of Duties & Responsibilities
- Study script to understand costume requirements in terms of setting, era, and character attributes
- Perform research on historical periods and different regions
- Collaborate with all production staff
- Develop costume plots for characters
- Create visual representations of costumes and present them for approval
- Construct/gather the final designs with fabrics, styles, and colors
- Purchase or rent costume pieces, accessories, materials, and supplies as necessary
- Work within budgetary constraints
- Supervise fittings and costumes for dress rehearsals
- Assume responsibility of dry-cleaning, laundering, maintenance, and storage of costumes
- Maintain/organize wardrobe stock and costume work areas

Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Customer service skills
- Team player
- Proven production experience as costume designer or similar role with experience creating costumes for a variety of plays
- Advanced sewing skills
- Knowledge of design and textiles
- Understand a range of styles, cultural/historical elements, possess an aptitude in research
- Knowledge of vintage clothing values and their care
- Create with excellent attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize, handle multiple/simultaneous tasks, and finish projects on time
- Excellent communication skills; positive attitude; ability to remain calm and respond confidently to stressful situations; capacity to solve problems with diplomacy and tact; creative thinking/problem solving about challenges; sound judgment in dealing with a variety of situations and personality types including college staff, faculty, students, and community members
Preferred Qualification- Degree in theatrical costume or wardrobe design, or relevant field
- Proficient knowledge of PC and Macintosh computers
Special Requirements/Licenses- Valid Driver's License and/or ability to gather and transport relevant materials and supplies
Physical Demands of Position- Requires lifting storage tubs of stock and other physical needs of the wardrobe storage area of up to 30 lbs.
