This position is female only.
This position works in a secure 24-hour 7-days per week detention facility with male and female clients under the age of 18 years of age and is responsible for creating and maintaining a safe, secure environment for juveniles and ensuring that their care and programming needs are met. The position consists of highly motivated individuals who will provide structured programs and activities while maintaining a high sense of safety and security in accordance with the established Policies and Procedures. The position interacts directly with juveniles with the focus on managing behavior by the least restrictive means, utilizing coaching and conflict resolution skills to promote pro-social behavior, encourage appropriate interactions, promote a sense of self-worth, and reinforce the relationship between behavior and consequences. The position strives to embody a positive, caring, and respectful image that the youth can emulate. Juvenile Court Services is a professional environment and employees are required to meet all departmental policies, procedures and standards.
Must have a High school diploma or G.E.D. Preference may be given to applicants with BA or BS in social or behavioral sciences, specialized training in corrections, social work, or related field, and one year of work experience in corrections, social services or comparable position dealing with the public; or any combination of education and experience which would provide the applicant with desired skills, knowledge and ability to perform the job.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
- Must be able to pass the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission Physical Ability Testing (PAT) standard. The test consists of completing minimum levels of push-ups, sit-ups and squat thrusts
- Applicants will be required to pass a comprehensive background investigation, which shows no criminal activity that could directly impact ability to perform the job.
- A valid Washington State Driver’s License is required for employment.
- Must be able to obtain first aid/CPR certification.
- Must be able to obtain Food Handlers Permit.
- Must be able to successfully complete the Washington State Juvenile Services Academy as scheduled by the employer.
