Job Summary:
This is a full time, professional position teaching High School curriculum and providing credit retrieval, including a secondary summer school. Other services conducted: tutoring youth in grades 9-12 of the Port Gamble S'Klallam Tribe community; supervising PGST academic coaches, students, and schools; cooperating and consulting with other departments and agencies to provide experiential learning opportunities. Provide coordination and facilitation of best practice staff development, training, and on-going support for academic coaches with the goal of expanding proficiency, creating classroom instructional excellence, and improving the overall performance of secondary level students (6-12). The High School teacher will also provide technical support to collaborative teams as they respond to the four critical questions of student learning in our secondary schools.
Essential Job Functions:
- Teach academic subjects for credit in one or more subjects for completion to high school students during school year.
- Maintain accurate and complete student records as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations.
- Work cooperatively as a team member; work with parents and representatives of outside agencies in an appropriate manner to support student learning.
- Consult with regular classroom teachers, staff, and parents about needs and services for PGST students.
- Attend IEP meetings as requested to help PGST parents understand the process and to advocate on behalf of parents and students.
- Assist students in changing non-academic behaviors which interfere with school performance.
- Instruct through hands-on activities, lectures, discussions, and demonstrations in one or more subjects.
- Measure progress of students toward set objectives and communicate this progress.
- Prepare and implement remedial programs for students requiring extra help.
- Train and supervise academic coaches.
- Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops to maintain and improve professional competence.
- Plan and supervise class projects, field trips, visits by guest speakers, or other experiential activities, and guide students in learning from those activities.

- Differentiation, including remediation, enrichment and acceleration
- Provide individual and group instruction.
- Teach/tutor homework subjects to secondary students.
- Plan curriculum and lessons for all programs. Evaluate students’ work and progress.
- Monitor academically at-risk high school students. Participate in monthly KHS meetings.
- Assist students in accessing work-based learning, West Sound Tech, Running--Start, Online-School, Job Corps and available apprenticeships.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- Range of appropriate instructional strategies to meet the needs of students with disabilities
- Training and experience in working with students with disabilities.
- Strong knowledge base (training, experience) in area of reading disabilities.
- Knowledge to assist classroom teacher with modifications, accommodations, diversified instruction strategies.
- Social Skills training.
- Behavior Intervention skills
- Appropriate classroom management skills.
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- 3-5 years of teaching experience working with diverse groups, preferably Native Americans.
- Supervisory experience supervising multiple team members.
- Enjoys working with teens and responsive to individual interests and learning styles.

Certificates and Special requirements:
- Hold a valid Washington State Teaching Credential with certification in Special Education
- Strong Skills in Core Subjects: English, U. S. and World History, Integrated Math and Science.
- Familiarity with Best Practices in Education
- Use of restorative practices, when dealing with student discipline.
- Experience with various cultural groups, preferably, Native Americans.
- Valid WA State driver’s license;
- Must successfully complete pre-employment background prior to employment date
- Comply with the tribe’s substance abuse personnel policy.
Physical Requirements:
- Regularly required to finger, handle, reach with hands and arms
- Frequently required to walk, sit, stand
- Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds
- Normal audio and visual acuity
Travel Requirements:
Local, statewide and out of state travel may be required
