Summary of Duties:
Laboratory Assistant will perform basic testing with supervision. Loading of samples on instruments, performing dilutions, aliquoting samples, operating centrifuges, heat bathes, staining slides, and maintaining basic testing equipment. Registering patients in the hospital information system and in the laboratory information system, accessioning samples, maintains a certification for shipping and packaging of exempt animal and category B test samples. Submission form reconciliation and monitoring, ordering and purchase of tests via online reference lab access and various other tasks to ensure laboratory tests used in screening, diagnosing, and treating animal diseases are processed for clinical testing. Documents clinical diagnostic laboratory tests receipt, recording results in logs, and evaluate invoices for test results completion, contacts appropriate personnel for tests with pending status and missing information. Other duties will include but are not limited to transporting samples, ordering supplies, answering phones, disposal of waste and paper, cleaning, and perform routine storage and organization of laboratory slides and documents.
Required Qualifications:
• One year's experience as a Laboratory Assistant 1 OR equivalent education/experience.
• Demonstrated strong computer skills and data entry proficiency.
• Demonstrated competency with Microsoft Office Suite software, including Word, Excel and Access.
• Demonstrated strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
• May require some evening and weekend shifts.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience working in a diagnostic laboratory setting.
• Experience working in an educational setting, including providing instruction to others.
• Experience tracking disposable inventory.
