Position Summary
As a Senior Equipment Stress Engineer, you'll be part of the Equipment Analysis Group, focusing on the design and analysis of complex mechanical equipment. Responsibilities include preparing design documentation, performing detailed calculations using engineering software, and drafting specifications for vital mechanical equipment and support systems.
Ideal Candidate Attributes
- Proficiency in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software, preferably STAR-CCM+ or ANSYS Fluent.
- Skilled in finite element analysis (FEA) software for structural and thermal analyses, preferably ANSYS.
- Experienced with industry standards such as ASME Section VIII, ASME B31.3, AISC ASD, and AISC N690.
- Capable of generating equipment design calculations and comprehensive design documents, including specifications and datasheets that meet stringent nuclear safety requirements.
Responsibilities
- Conduct equipment analyses using CFD or FEA software to produce robust equipment design calculations.
- Review analyses and other submissions from equipment vendors and resolve any technical issues.
- Collaborate with various engineering disciplines to refine designs.
- Participate in the creation of equipment drawings and support cost estimation and scheduling for mechanical equipment.
- Maintain strict adherence to quality standards and project schedules.
Qualifications and Skills
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering with a minimum of 13 years related experience, particularly in the design and fabrication of complex equipment.
- Extensive knowledge of industry and regulatory standards, especially in process equipment fabrication and construction.
- Proficient with CFD analysis software like STAR-CCM+ or ANSYS Fluent.
- Familiarity with fluid dynamics, including fluid flow, heat transfer, and acoustics.
- Experience with quality assurance programs such as ASME-NQA-1, MIL-Q-9858A, or ISO-9000.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Comprehensive understanding of Mechanical Engineering design principles.
- Excellent communication skills, team-oriented, and adaptable.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office suite.
- Ability to pass pre-employment screenings and obtain necessary security clearances.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Professional Engineering license.
- MS degree in Engineering (Mechanical or related).
- Experience in DOE or commercial nuclear facilities, particularly in equipment design analysis.
- Expertise in using STAR-CCM+ and/or ANSYS Fluent for CFD, and ANSYS for FEA.
- Thorough understanding of equipment design, including structural, thermal, and dynamic aspects (e.g., seismic analysis).
