Summary of Duties:
The County Noxious Weed Coordinator will assist the County Noxious Weed Board to administer the Washington State Weed Law https://app.leg.wa.gov/rcw/default.aspx?cite=17.10 . The coordinator will work closely with the Board in developing methods to secure grants and other methods of funding for the Weed Control program, offer education and raise awareness of noxious weed control throughout the county, and in general, promote and implement
Required Qualifications:
• A Bachelor's degree in a relevant extension program discipline and two (2) years of related program experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
• Bachelor's Degree and experience in environmental sciences or agricultural related fields.
• Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position as described herein.
• Excellent communication (written, oral), computer literacy and public presentation skills
• Must be able to obtain a valid driver's license by time of hire
• Must be able to obtain automobile liability insurance
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Washington State Public Pesticide Consultant's License, a pesticide operator license, and any necessary endorsements within 60 days of employment. (https://app.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?Cite=17.10.060. Within sixty days from initial employment, the weed coordinator shall obtain a pest control consultant license, a pesticide operator license, and the necessary endorsements on the licenses as required by law.)
Preferred Qualifications:
• Knowledgeable about botany, agriculture, gardening, marketing, food systems, forestry and resource management concepts and issues
• Knowledge of biological, herbicidal, mechanical, and cultural methods of controlling noxious weeds, including current pesticide uses, hazards and compatibility with ambient environment
• Knowledge of current state and federal weed control and pesticide laws and regulations
• Ability to identify plants in various stages of growth
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with county departments and employees, various agencies, and the general public
• Experience with developing communications materials such as newsletters, social media marketing and advertisement
• Experience with coordinating and marketing events and training programs
• Ability to work independently and as a team member to complete daily activities

Monthly Salary:
$3,900.88 - $5,613.47

Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position. Successful candidates typically begin up to mid-point of the salary range. This is a temporary one (1) year project position. Renewal is dependent on the need for extension and/or if additional funding is secured to extend employment. Funding has been renewed successfully for several years and we expect funding to continue to be renewed
