Human Resources Generalist
Purpose Statement
The job of Human Resources Generalist is done for the purpose/s of assisting in the effective management of employee relations, staffing, benefits, training, regulatory compliance, and special projects as assigned while complying with district, state, and federal polices and regulations.
This job is distinguished from similar jobs by the following characteristics: Per the essential functions and educational requirements listed below.
This job reports to Executive Director - Human Resources
Essential Functions
Assists Human Resources Director in a variety of activities (e.g. labor management meetings, employee relations process, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the outcomes of the department are met.
Communicates with a variety of stakeholders (e.g. employees, administrators, applicants, general public, etc.) for the purpose of providing information and assistance while complying with district, state, and federal policies and regulations.
Conducts a variety of activities (e.g. pre-employment paperwork for certificated staff, special research, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the department meets deadlines and outcomes while complying with district, state, and federal policies and regulations.
Coordinates a variety of activities related to the employment process (e.g. vacancies posted, recruitment advertised, candidates notified, etc.) for the purpose of meeting agency staffing requirements while complying with district, state, and federal policies and regulations.
Maintains a variety of documents, files, and records (e.g. current employee job descriptions for all active positions, ESD employee Safe Schools training results, bargaining agreements, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring accurate and timely information is available to the department.
Participates in a variety of meetings as assigned for the purpose of conveying and gathering information required to perform functions.
Prepares a variety of documents, files, records, and reports (e.g. annual certified contracts, personnel action forms, VEBA notices, etc.) for the purpose of providing accurate documentation and information to others while complying with district, state, and federal policies and regulations.
Processes a variety of information (e.g. verifications of previous professional employment, leave of absence process, outgoing requests for verifications of employment, college transcripts, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the correct employment status for each employee while complying with district, state, and federal policies and regulations.
Regular and reliable attendance is required for the purpose of maintaining department operations.
Researches a variety of work-related topics (e.g. employment laws and regulations, certificated contract questions, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring compliance with current legal requirements.
Responds to inquiries on a variety of topics (e.g. Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), the state Family Care processes, procedural and policy questions, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring information is accurately disseminated while complying with district, state, and federal policies and regulations.
Reviews and facilitates updates to the Human Resources internet/intranet web pages on a regular basis for the purpose of maintaining up-to-date and accurate public and departmental information.
Marginal Functions
Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
SKILLS are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: planning and managing projects; preparing and maintaining accurate records; operating standard office equipment; and utilizing pertinent software applications.
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: personnel practices applied within an education or public environment; contract language, regulations, and laws related to job functions; business telephone etiquette; concepts of grammar and punctuation; office methods and procedures; and standard office software.
ABILITY is required to schedule a number of activities, meetings, and/or events; often gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Work Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 70% sitting, 20% walking, and 10% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
Experience: Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is required.
Education (Minimum): High school diploma or equivalent.
Equivalency: PHR, SPHR, or HR Certification preferred.
