Position Summary
The eLearning Development Specialist utilizes designated software to build educational products in alignment with IFM standards and strategic goals, as directed by the Associate Director (AD), eLearning & Accessibility. In this role, the eLearning Development Specialist serves as an expert on the eLearning software platforms and collaborates across the organization to build educational products that are consistently branded, accessible and copyright compliant.
Essential Functions
Developing and Maintaining eLearning Courses and Related Assets
- Plans, produces, and revises eLearning projects across functional medicine curriculum, CME and non-CME clinical content, and other organization-wide topics, as assigned by the supervisor.
- Collaborates with Medical Education team and subject matter experts (SMEs) to ensure that educational content incorporates elements of adult learning and instructional design best practices, is of high professional quality, and emphasizes the measurable outcomes of learning objectives.
- Collaborates with team members and ensures alignment with IFM-specific quality assurance (QA) requirements related to copyright, citations, adult education, FM standards, accessibility, branding, UX, and any others.
- Works with cross-functional teams, including Customer Relations, Marketing, and IT, to ensure that learners maintain access to learning materials, and that eLearning courses perform as expected.
- Participates in IFM online forums, webinars, and other interactive activities with partners and participants as needed.
- As needed, submit video editing requests and conduct quality control for videos (audio, visual, etc.).
- Track eLearning assets and their technical requirements to ensure that necessary updates are made across courses.
- Collaborates with Operations team regarding all aspects of the eLearning product lifecycle: development, maintenance, retirement, repurposing.
- Provide analytics on course progress, test scores, and other information to internal and external stakeholders.
eLearning Project Support
- Coordinates and executes assigned IFM eLearning projects; assists with planning as directed by supervisor; creates, maintains and updates project timelines related to the building of specific eLearning assets.
- Collaborates with team members and reviewers to meet production timelines.
- When applicable, collaborates with Continuing Education Manager to ensure adherence to ACCME Continuing Medical Education (CME) rules and standards.
- Collaborate and communicate with stakeholders in other departments as needed.
Other Functions
- Collaborates with the Medical Education and Strategic Partnership and Innovations departments on the development and evaluation of new promotional/educational functional medicine product ideas, as well as enhancements to existing products or strategic product extensions, and translates research discoveries into usable and marketable products.
- Acts as a functional medicine ambassador for IFM when present for in person and online events, providing expertise, offering support, and receiving feedback from partners, attendees, and other third parties – through both formal and informal arrangements.
- Help train other staff on existing courses and technology.
- This role may perform duties not listed in the essential functions, but which are essential to the eLearning Development Specialist.
What We’re Looking For
• Associate degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, or another training-related field or equivalent work experience required.
• 2+ years’ experience in eLearning project development and coordination.
• Instructional design and/or eLearning certification preferred.
• Knowledge of accessibility compliance to include WCAG AA guidelines a plus
• Knowledge of MS Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint) and Articulate 360 suite of tools (Storyline360, Rise360, Review360, etc.); willingness and ability to adapt to new technologies and software such as project management tools (Asana), file management systems (Box and Widen), and Learning Management Systems (Absorb).

• Attention to Detail: Ability to be detail oriented and devote focus and a critical lens to produce high-quality work.

Ability to communicate information in concise, actionable language and have the recipient understand the message whether orally or in writing.

• Organizational Excellence: Ability to take initiative, ownership, and accountability for projects; able to react quickly with a strong sense of urgency.
