Medical Assistant, Walla Walla Jail
This position supports other BMHTH medical staff at the Walla Walla County Jail, helping with medication management, dispensing, and other clinical tasks. This position entails earlier morning hours and pays an enhanced rate for those hours. Successful candidate will also earn a $2,000 bonus, half paid after one month, and half at the end of the probationary period. This is a permanent, full-time, hourly position with a range of $22.50 to $25 an hour for non-enhanced rate work. It qualifies for BMHTH’s full complement of benefits.
Duties:
- Understand and adhere to ethics rules and standards for health care workers set by the State of Washington, Walla Walla County Adult Jail (WWCJ), and/or Blue Mountain Heart to Heart (BMHTH)
- Ensure confidentiality of all patients, current and former, during and after employment in this role
- Provide support to Jail Nurse, Charge Nurse, attending Prescriber, and BMHTH management, in the form of medication management and preparation, dispensing, and assistance in client care as requested
- Provide timely, accurate, and complete reporting on medication management, organization, and dispensing as required by WWCJ and BMHTH
- Work productively with on-site clinical staff, fellow team members, and with outside partners, for the wellbeing of BMHTH and mutual clients
- Support clinical tasks to aid the Jail Nurse, Charge Nurse, and attending Prescriber as they deliver patient care, as needed, but potentially including any practice listed in RCW 18.360.050
- Attend program-related training and regular meetings as requested and required by WWCJ and/or BMHTH
Expectations:
- Timely reporting to work, and accuracy on timesheet recordkeeping
- Clear written and oral communication with supervisor, coworkers, clients, and contract holders
- Professional interactions with patients, coworkers, and County staff
- On-time, accurate, and complete paperwork support for clients in the form of notes, applications for services, and paper file requirements
- “No surprises” communication
- Active engagement in client issues and needs. Initiative taking in continuing education and project-specific
Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree in a health-related field or 3 or more years’ experience in health care settings
- Active medical assistant’s license, no encumberment against working with vulnerable patients
- Bilingual candidates preferred
