The City of Walla Walla offers a comprehensive benefits package including medical, vision, and dental health insurance. NATURE OF POSITION:
Perform skilled technical work in a variety of building, HVAC, electrical, and mechanical trades pertaining to the maintenance and repair of City buildings, facilities, and equipment.
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from high school or GED equivalent, and four (4) years’ experience in one or more of the building trades. Must have ability to perform at a journey level in at least two (2) or more technical trades which include but are not limited to HVAC, electrical, carpentry, plumbing. Completion of an accredited vocational education program in any one of the above technical trades can be substituted for two (2) years of the four (4) years required journey level experience, or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Valid state driver's license. Obtain Aquatic Facility Operators certification within six months of hire. Obtain forklift safety and operation training certification, background, and security check, first aid, and CPR certifications within first six months of employment.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Valid CFC 608 Universal Technician Certification, and experience in building HVAC automation systems, welding, and fabrication. Washington state electrical license and proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word. Bilingual in Spanish.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
General direction and oversight are provided by the Facility Maintenance Supervisor.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Employees of the City of Walla Walla are expected to model and foster the City’s core values: Service - Integrity - Collaboration - Equity - Leadership - Community
- Performs skilled mechanical maintenance duties in the inspection, repair, installation and alteration of City heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, heat pumps, direct digital controls, chilled water systems, boilers and related equipment and facilities.
- Manage automated City-wide HVAC control systems.
- Performs preventative maintenance, routine servicing, and troubleshooting of equipment and systems.
- Perform maintenance, repair, and installation work on the City’s electrical systems; install wiring and electronic devices used in the computerized heating, ventilation, and cooling control systems.
- Assist with the operation and maintenance of City swimming pools to assure compliance with Federal and State Department of Health standards and regulations; ensure appropriate equipment operation and make necessary repairs.
- Perform skilled work in the construction, renovation, maintenance and repair of building and facilities.
- Perform carpentry work in the renovation, alteration, maintenance and construction of buildings, floors, roofs, partitions, doors, windows, and wooden fixtures; perform a variety of skilled bench work in a shop.
- Prepare estimates of time and material costs required for assigned projects; maintain routine records; enter work orders into computerized software.
- Organize and maintain accurate computerized maintenance records.
- Work from blueprints, shop drawings, and sketches; estimate materials and supply needs; maintain routine records.
- Assist others with special events and seasonal activities set-up as assigned.
- Perform plumbing work on water and sewer lines and other plumbing fixtures; install and repair new lines, fixtures, pumps.
- Perform journeyman level electrical upgrades, repairs and installation as provided for in National Electrical Code.
- Maintain facility access controls including electronic keying systems; rekey and replace core mechanisms in standard door locks.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- General knowledge of commercial building maintenance, construction, codes, and procedures. Methods, techniques, materials, tools, and equipment used in electrical, maintenance, repair, and construction work.
- Ability to perform HVAC repairs, maintenance, and installations.
- Codes, rules, regulations, and operational procedures pertaining to the repair, maintenance and construction of City buildings, swimming pools, machines, and equipment with emphasis in HVAC and electrical systems.
- Safe working methods and procedures including use of PPE and Lock-out/Tag-out procedures.
- Technical aspects of the building maintenance trades.
- Skillfully use a variety of power and hand tools.
- Maintain work pace appropriate to given workload.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
A variety of hand tools, power tools and specialized equipment for the building trades (e.g. concrete, saws, power saws, drills and chain saw); operate a variety of heavy equipment such as bucket trucks, scissor lifts and forklifts; use standard office equipment such as computers, copiers, scanners, and phones.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Seeing, hearing and speaking to exchange information; standing and walking for extended periods of time; kneeling down, stooping, bending at the waist; pushing, pulling and lifting heavy objects; climbing ladders; reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate hand and power tools.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Indoor and outdoor environment; driving a vehicle to conduct work; regular exposure to fumes, dust and odors; seasonal heat, cold and adverse weather conditions; working on scaffolding; working with electrical; exposure to chlorine, acid and other pool related chemicals.
