MISSION STATEMENT:

SCOPE OF POSITION:
Works in a supervised capacity within the routine job description, tailored to specific program needs. Responsible to supervise other employees and/or volunteers only as directed by supervisor. Requires skills or experience working with people. Ability to work with minimal supervision and as directed. High personal standards of cleanliness, thoroughness, and attention to detail. Physical ability to satisfactorily complete all tasks in an efficient manner. Must be able to work effectively within the environment of people in crisis. The Salvation Army requires certain positions to reside in on-site housing for the convenience of The Salvation Army as an employer and this position will live on site providing a positive presence for residents. All responsibilities are under the supervision of the Maintenance Department in coordination with Corps Officers and the Ministry Team, who will monitor for accuracy and adherence to policies and procedures of The Salvation Army.
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or equivalent level required; degree preferred
Previous janitorial or maintenance experience
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Must be able to pass a criminal background check
Must possess identification documents sufficient for hiring as required by the Department of Homeland Security
Must be able to readily communicate problems verbally or in writing to immediate supervisor
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
Adhere to daily check list for cleaning and maintenance of both buildings and grounds as determined by seasons and event schedules
Daily sweeping and mopping of all common areas, offices, lobby, etc.
Vacuum all office spaces and hallways as needed
Dust and straighten furnishings as needed
Empty trash receptacles in meeting rooms, warehouse, food bank, offices, labs, break-rooms, and restrooms
Clean all restrooms, break-rooms, and Practice Kitchen walls, floors, fixtures, and surfaces daily
Stock paper products and soap dispensers
Weekly window cleaning in all spaces of both buildings
Keep supplies adequately stocked in the Emergency Family Shelter and Sally's House janitorial closet
Assist the shelter staff with the proper methods, chemicals, and techniques for building custodial duties
Assist Shelter staff in maintaining building security and safety
Keep building exterior patrolled for trash, cleanliness, and repair problems
Report all graffiti, repair problems, or hazardous conditions to the Property and Maintenance Coordinator promptly
Perform snow removal and apply de-ice products as needed during working hours
Strip, wax, or burnish ceramic and VCT tiled areas as directed on a periodic basis
Replace burned out light bulbs as necessary in all buildings
Operate all necessary cleaning equipment, hand tools, and apparatus to perform custodial duties
Other duties as assigned by the Property and Maintenance Coordinator, Business Administrator, or Commanding Officer
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis
Ability to grasp, push, pull, objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, carts, doors, and reach overhead
Ability to operate varied maintenance equipment (floor care, snow blower, lawn care equipment)
Ability to operate a telephone and other office equipment
Ability to access and produce information from a computer
Ability to understand written information
Ability to lift up to 40lbs on a regular basis
Ability to sweep, clean, shovel snow, and perform other janitorial tasks as needed
Qualified individuals must be able to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation. Once a conditional offer has been made and then accepted by the applicant, The Salvation Army may then ask specific questions about vaccination status, if applicable. If the applicant requests an exemption, then processes described in this summary should be followed.

Retirement Plans: Employer-funded Money Purchase Pension Plan (Defined Contribution Plan) 50% vested at five years eligible service time. Plus, an employee-funded voluntary 403(b) option.
Parental Leave: The benefit is 40 hours of Paid Leave for qualifying events.
Sick Leave: 12 days of Sick Leave annually accruing from day one, eligible for use after three months' service time.
Paid Vacation:
Two weeks annually, accruing from day one, for non-exempt positions
Four weeks annually, accruing from day one, for exempt positions
Accrued vacation is eligible for use after six months' service time
Paid Holidays: 13 designated holidays + 1 floating holiday per year
