JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Summary:
This position assists teaching staff in providing day to day care for children enrolled in Head Start, ECEAP and Early Head Start classrooms, and School Age before and after school program, through building positive relationships with children and families, using an approved developmentally appropriate curriculum which promotes routines, social, emotional, physical, and intellectual growth of children in the program.
Duties:
- Assist classroom teachers in delivering the daily program for infants, and toddlers,pre- school age, and/or school age children under the direct supervision of the Child Care Coordinator, Head Start, Early Head Start, or ECEAP teachingstaff.
- Assist in preparing the learning environment for children to include setting upcenters with materials and supplies as directed by Child Care Coordinator or teacher and classroomclean-up.
- Responsible for creating and implementing lesson plans that bridge the daily transition from child care before and after Head Start, ECEAP or Early Head Start instruction times, and for all-day programming on Fridays. Lesson plans are submitted monthly to the Child CareCoordinator.
- Fill in for EHS and/or HS/ECEAP teachers during break and planning time asrequested by Child Care Coordinator or ProgramManagement.
- Participate in relevant training asrequested.
- Participate in classroom team meetings asrequested.
- Attend In-Service meetings unless excused by the Child CareCoordinator.
- Notify the Child Care Coordinator and teaching team of absence from work with as much advance notice aspossible.
- Report suspected incidences of child abuse/neglect to ELC Director to complete indetail the SCAN document and make report to CPS and or/Suquamish Tribal Police as mandated.
- Accepts other duties asassigned.
Secondary Functions:
- Perform other duties as assigned by the ChildcareCoordinator.
- Remain knowledgeable in Early ChildhoodEducation.
- Occasional out-of-town travel to attend necessary training, meetings, and activities as assigned.
Education and or Experience:
- High School Diploma orGED.
- MustobtainaCDAcredentialwithinoneyearofhire,andrenewinaccordancewithindividual timeline.
- Six months experience working with infants and toddlers, preschoolers and/or school age children, and experience working in a day care program ispreferred.
- Ability to flex hours as needed and adapt tochange.
- Must have good written and verbal communication skills, with concern forand understanding of low-incomefamilies.
- Strong organization and planningabilities.
- Must have interest and understanding of Suquamish Tribalculture.
Supervisory Controls:

Health Requirements:
- TB skin test beforehire.
- CPR/First AidTraining.
- Initial physical exam within 30-days of employment, every two yearsthereafter.
- Food HandlersPermit.
- HIV/AIDSTraining.
- Good personal hygiene andgrooming.
Employment Requirements:
- Drug Test and State/Tribal backgroundchecks.
- Valid Washington State Driver’sLicense
- Must be able to get down on the child’s eye level andfloor.
- Must be able to lift up to 50pounds.
- Simple grasping and hand manipulation required as well as reaching above and below shoulderlevel.
- Must be able to withstand exposure to noise in an early learningenvironment.
- Must be mentally alert and able to react quickly and appropriately when dealing withpre- school agechildren.
- Requires accuracy, good communication, judgment, and the ability to remain calmand provide appropriate advice andinformation.
- Must be able to exhibit regularattendance.
