DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
Assists in performing, under the supervision and control of a licensed pharmacist, manipulative, non-discretionary functions associated with the practice of pharmacy and other such duties and subject to such restrictions as the Washington State Board of Pharmacy may by rule adopt.

EDUCATION BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE
- Current WA Pharmacy Technician license (in good standing)
- PTCB certified or must be willing to certify within the first year of employment
- Minimum of one year experience as a practicing pharmacy technician (hospital experience preferred but not required)
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Supports hospital mission and strategic vision; manages hospital resources appropriately; complies with hospital policies and programs; maintains skill levels, licenses, and certifications; complies with all state and federal compliance and HIPAA requirements; keeps lines of communication open between self and other hospital personnel; competent with computer programs.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Assists in the sterile preparation of small volume parenteral and IV additives.
- Inspects medication areas for outdated medication and replaces the outdated medications.
- Maintains up-to-date and timely audits on medications administered in the hospital for appropriate charges
- Ensures that all controlled substances have been properly accounted for.
- Aids the pharmacist in maintaining a quality improvement program.
- Aids the pharmacist in maintaining the employee prescription profile.
- Assists in non-discretionary functions of filling employee prescriptions (selecting drug from shelf, counting, pouring, typing labels, updating patient profile, assigning charge). Final check must be performed by pharmacist.
- Receives and checks in freight. Class II and other controlled substances may be checked in by the pharmacy technician but require a co-signature by the pharmacist.
- In addition to above, the pharmacy technician may perform the duties of a pharmacy assistant.
