What does a Maintenance Electrician do at Swire Coca-Cola?
Maintenance Electrician performs a variety of general facility maintenance in a production plant. The production environment is operational 24/7, 3 shifts per day. This is a union position where work shift is determined by seniority. The Electrician is responsible to maintain, repair, disassemble and troubleshoot complex equipment in charge of production processes. There is high speed automated production machinery, and other manufacturing equipment.
Responsibilities:
Work is performed in high-speed bottling and production environment. Work requires exposure to all temperature changes, high noise levels, working around moving equipment, tanks, heights, wet conditions, fumes, vibrations, dust, etc. Working hours must be flexible with the ability to work all shifts and extended hours as required.
Utilizes safety and security practices and procedures following established rules and regulations to maintain a safe, clean, and secure work environment.
Ensure the safety needs are given a top priority in operations support & work execution. Some examples are Arc Flash/Shock Hazard safety, Confined Space Entry, LOTO, Hazardous Materials, Hand Tool Safe Use, etc.
Have complete knowledge of plant's processes and packaging systems.
Adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) in the execution of the work schedule and operational support. Ensure the shop is maintained in a safe and orderly fashion.
Protect the integrity and quality of product.
Repairs and maintains production equipment, machinery or instruments to ensure that it functions reliably and complies with process specifications; responds to emergencies, break-downs, malfunctions etc. to minimize disruptions to manufacturing processes.
Analyze test results, machine error messages, and information obtained from operators to diagnose equipment problems.
Perform preventive maintenance on Electrical systems to include disassembly, cleaning, reassembly and calibration.
Install, troubleshoot, and perform preventative maintenance on variable frequency drives (VFD's), including controls, motors and pumps.
Install and troubleshoot Allen Bradley PLC control systems.
Measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble, and install electrical conduit using rulers, measuring devices, hand tools, pipe threader, and conduit bender.
Study blueprints and manufacturers' manuals to determine correct installation and operation of machinery.
Obtain one-lines, drawings, instructional manuals and special procedures, as needed, from files or other sources. Make any additional sketches or diagrams as necessary to clarify the intent of the work order.
Perform repairs or modifications when blueprints and manufactures specifications are unavailable or incomplete.
Record parts and materials used, then order or requisition new parts and materials as necessary.
Enter codes and instructions to program computer-controlled machinery.
Communicate with management, engineers, mechanics, and equipment operators to advise them if there are any potential mechanical hazards.
Execute the maintenance work schedule as provided by his/her supervisor. Proper execution of the work schedule will require strategic decisions to ensure the scheduled work will be completed within the period scheduled. This effort requires the electrician to be aware of CIP, sanitation and other periods of downtime.
Examine jobs to be done, determine scope and best way to accomplish the work. Consult with requester, maintenance planner, and/or supervisor when necessary.
Attend meetings and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Recommend equipment to be included in preventive maintenance programs.
Suggest improvements to all maintenance processes, including planning scheduling, preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, CMMS, storeroom operations, etc.
Promote the conservation of energy.
Maintain close contact with assigned maintenance crew, the production supervisor and equipment operators.
Requirements:
High School diploma, or equivalent degree or certificate
Meet all basic plant employment criteria, to include a good attendance record
Must have 3-5 years' experience in this role or equal vocational & technical training.
Maintenance experience which may include hydraulics, controls, electrical, mechanical, welding, electrical, PLC's, and pneumatics.
Working knowledge of hand power tools.
Able to read one-line diagrams, blueprints & schematics.
Able to lift 50 pounds
Ability to work on multiple levels, such as catwalks or ladders, and ability to work in extreme temperatures
Manual and finger dexterity
Ability to visually identify defective parts
Ability to hear machine operations sounds to detect defective parts, machine failures, changes in speed and other routine running conditions
Must have strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work efficiently under stressful situations
Ability to work 8-hour, 10-hour or 12-hour shift or required necessary hours to meet the business requirements. This may include overtime and weekend work as necessary.
Must be able to use a computer & associated software programs.
Starting pay is $28.90 per hour, with potential evening or graveyard shift premium.
