Job Description
Job Purpose:
Hand harvesting wine grapes for an estate winery. Harvest usually begins in early august through September and into October.
Duties:
- carefully harvesting grapes as part of a harvest team.
- work at the direction of our vineyard foreman to prepare, clean and harvest wine grapes.
- removal of leaves to make harvesting easier.
- gathering bird netting to put into storage for the winter.
- carrying picking baskets to place fruit in larger bins.
- flexibility working weekends. we try not to work weekends but there are times when we must harvest.
- days when we are not harvesting maybe but used cleaning the vineyard property or physically weeding. *Overtime is paid on weeks over 40 hours as per state law.
Skills/Qualifications:
- past experience would be desirable but not necessary.
- work includes kneeling, bending at the waist, lifting and carrying up to 50#, working in frosty temperature as well as 90 degree temperatures.
- employees must have closed toe shoes, long pants, gardening gloves, long pants and we recommend a hat for shade.
- drinking water, pruners, masks and implements provided by the employer.
