This is a journey-level position responsible for performing skilled labor involving maintenance and repair of City streets; water, sewer, and storm system facilities; open spaces, parkways, parks; and building facilities. The employee is under the direct supervision of the Field Supervisor and/or Public Works Superintendent and complies with the demands of Public Works and City of Gig Harbor guidelines, policies, procedures, practices, as well as applicable local, state and federal laws.
The position is responsible for maintaining and repairing city-owned resources, including City streets, water, sewer, stormwater facilities, open spaces, parkways, parks and building facilities. Work requires application of crafts and trades techniques in a wide variety of public works activities.
The incumbent occasionally interacts or provides information and/or assistance to the public, City officials, City employees, other agencies and other individuals, both in person and via electronic communications.
Work and procedures are varied and performed with limited supervisory oversight and is often self-directed. Incumbent often serves in a project or job site lead capacity. Assignments are received in the form of oral instruction, work orders, established maintenance and service schedules, blueprints, sketches, and rough notes. Incumbent has great latitude for exercising sound judgment and taking initiative within the scope of oral and written instructions established by departmental and City of Gig Harbor guidelines, policies, procedures, practices, written instructions, as well as applicable state and federal laws.
Work is reviewed for quality, timeliness, and successful achievement of projects and job duties. Work is also reviewed for ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and ability to work as a team member with City staff, elected officials, and the general public.
