WORK SCHEDULE
Full-time, visiting position available September 1, 2020. This is a one-year appointment that may be renewed for two additional years. Must be available to work Monday-Friday, including evening classes and occasional weekends.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Department of Kinesiology at Pacific Lutheran University seeks an individual who can contribute to a strong, cohesive team and a dynamic, respected academic program. This position is the result of a newly approved graduate program with an applied focus. A clear commitment to excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level, and to student-faculty collaboration and scholarship. Candidates with strong academic backgrounds as well as practitioner experience and credentials are preferred.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The individual in this position must be willing to contribute at all levels of both the undergraduate and graduate program, with a focus on areas related to applied exercise science. Teaching responsibilities will include some combination of Applied Training and Conditioning, Applied Biomechanics, Exercise Physiology, Introduction to Kinesiology, Internship and Capstone at the undergraduate level, and Applied Exercise Science, Research Methods and Special Topics at the graduate level. Candidates must also be willing to contribute to the First Year Experience Program or to other elements of the General Education Program as appropriate. Additional teaching opportunities will depend on expertise and might include Nutrition, Coaching Education or Motor Learning. Mentoring graduate projects is required. The individual in this position is expected to maintain an active scholarly agenda and contribute to departmental service needs, including undergraduate academic advising, as needed.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
-Knowledge of effective and varied teaching strategies.
-Skill in designing and delivering effective courses and assessments.
-Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written forms.
-A clear commitment to excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level, and to student-faculty collaboration and scholarship.
-Ability to guide and develop students through active mentoring.
-Ability to contribute to fostering diversity of the campus, curriculum, and/or discipline.
-Ability to work both collaboratively and independently.
-Self-motivated with a strong work ethic.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
-Ph.D. in Kinesiology, Exercise Science or a closely related field. ABD will be considered, but Ph.D. must be in hand by September 1, 2020.
-Evidence of scholarly activity.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
-Experience teaching at the college or university level strongly preferred.
-ACSM CEP or NSCA CSCS Certification.
-Previous work experience in a position related to Kinesiology.
-Experience with community-based scholarship.
-Grant writing experience.
-Experience mentoring undergraduate or graduate research or applied projects.
-Active involvement in one or more professional organizations.
-Broad based knowledge about the field of Kinesiology and associated professions.
