This position will be located in our Headquarters Building in Lacey, WA.The Facility Planning and Project Coordinator position is a senior level supervisor and is responsible for coordinating, directing, and reviewing the development of designs and specifications by subordinate staff and/or private design firms for the construction or major renovation of state agency owned and leased facilities statewide. The position also coordinates and directs the planning, scheduling, and cost controls of complex building maintenance, renovation and construction projects. The position develops long-range cost estimates and analysis required for budget forecasts, facilities planning, conceptual studies, and bid comparison of projects for design, renovation and/or construction.We are looking for applicants who have experience in design and construction of a variety of building types and systems including site work, structural elements, roofing, mechanical and electrical systems, as well as interior finishes and space uses. This role requires skills and experience in project administration and management including a working knowledge of applicable building codes and Public Works laws. The ability to communicate effectively to stakeholders is absolutely necessary. What we need most is a candidate who possesses the skills and leadership experience to manage a project from concept through design, construction document development, bidding and contract award, through construction activity and project acceptance. At times it may be necessary to work longer hours for specific projects or emergency repairs to an agency facility. Culture of the team:The Facility Section for the Dept. of Ecology is comprised of dedicated specialized employees, consultants, and contractors who operate in a cohesive team. Their fundamental task is to maintain safe and effective facilities to house employees and equipment necessary to perform the business functions of the agency. It is vitally important the individual who is selected for the position to be an active cooperative member of the team and an effective leader. This recruitment will remain open until filled. Required Qualifications:A Bachelor's degree involving major study in architecture, engineering, construction management, business administration, strategic planning, or closely allied field.ANDSix (6) years of progressive relevant professional experience in construction management, business administration, strategic planning or other related experience.**Note: Additional qualifying experience may be substituted year for year for required education. AND Ability to: build, lead and sustain effective project teams in a dynamic diverse environment. The ability to effectively communicate, negotiate and partner with a variety of individuals internal and external to Ecology.Knowledge of: site development and building construction, including the ability to read drawings and specifications. Knowledge of established project management approach to project initiation, scope, time, cost, quality, human resources, communication and risk management.Knowledge of: real estate acquisition and disposal, property leases, property law, and lease negotiations.Ability to: make timely and responsive decisions, taking appropriate calculated risks, and a commitment to acting in the public interest with high ethical standards of conduct, integrity and honesty. Desired Qualifications:A Bachelor's degree involving major study in architecture, engineering, construction management, business or public administration, construction management, strategic planning, or closely allied field.ANDSix years' experience in real property development and construction involving the preparation of cost estimates for major real property development.ANDAt least two (2) years of experience supervising professional building or construction staff.
