The Paraeducator will provide in-school assistance in reading and mathematics to students who need extra help to achieve grade level standards in reading, language arts, or mathematics. In some cases, they may be asked to work with a group of students performing at a higher level to free the teacher up to work with the neediest students. They will be asked to assess students as part of the instructional process.
The Paraeducator provides instructional assistance, including tutoring and overseeing student activities, and assisting teacher with the production of educational materials and student instruction as assigned. Supervises students and enforce playground rules on recess (if applicable); corrects students as necessary to maintain a safe environment; oversees student activities and safety on recess, in the lunchroom, in bus or school crossing areas.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to have precise control of fingers and hand movements; be exposed to childhood diseases; be exposed to, or responsible for, potential health and safety risks and discomfort incurred by students or self; experience demands from a diversity of others, including students, parents, community and staff; demands of constant change; exertion, including fatigue and concentration; deal with distraught or difficult individuals The employee frequently is required to climb or balance and crouch, crawl, bend, or kneel; stand for prolonged periods; lift at least 30 pounds; and be exposed to high noise level.
