JOB DESCRIPTION
The person in this position will perform the following duties:
** Plant roots, seeds and bulbs. Spread plastic or other ground covering. Clean plastic by hand from ground upon removal. Till soil. Weed and thin plants. Transplant plants by hand. Stake/tie plants, trellis/prune plants, and set poles and wires for vine plants.
** Pick, cut, lift, or pull crops. Tie vegetables in bunches. Grade, size and field pack product. Take care to prevent damaging produce and plants.
** Work on production line. Grade, size, sort, and pack product. Run vegetable washing machines. Bunch/bundle product pursuant to supervisor instructions.
** Fill bins/trays and other containers with product, level bins, and prepare product for shipment to market or storage.
** Perform quality control on inbound/outbound loads. Follow quality control standards and production procedures. Handle product carefully to prevent damage.
** Lift, carry, and load/unload products or supplies. Palletize and stack boxes/containers. Use power equipment including, but not limited, to forklifts. Operate equipment safely, with or without direction. Assist with regular maintenance on equipment. Clean/sanitize workstation and equipment.
** Mow, cut, and weed fields with mowers and weed eaters. Perform ditching, shoveling, hoeing, hauling, ground preparation, and other manual tasks. Bending, stooping and kneeling required. Use hand tools including but not limited to hoes, shovels, shears, clippers, loppers, and saws.
** Install/maintain irrigation systems and water lines. Move and install irrigation pipes and equipment. Dig and maintain ditches. Install and remove levee gates.
** Assist with farm building/field maintenance and repairs. Build/repair fences.
Work is done in the field for long periods of time. The person in this position may assist in handling product weighing up to 60 pounds and lifting to a height of 3 feet. Workers must work on their feet in bent positions for long periods of time. Work requires repetitive movements and extensive walking.
Work required in fields when plants are wet with dew and rain, and may be required during light rain, snow, moderate winds, direct sun, high humidity and extreme temperatures. Temperatures in fields during working hours can range from 30 to over 90 degrees F. The person in this position may be required to work during occasional showers not severe enough to stop field operations.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
* Willing to commit to the entire contract period
* 3 months of agricultural field work experience handling manual and machine tasks associated with commodity production and harvest activities
* Able to lift 60 lbs. repeatedly throughout the day
HOURS/DAYS/SCHEDULE
Contract period: April 15th, 2024 through October 15th, 2024
7 hours per day Monday through Friday.
SALARY/WAGE/BENEFITS
$19.25 per hour.
The payroll period shall be bi-weekly.
The employer will furnish, without charge, all tools, supplies and personal protective equipment required in the performance of the specified work.
Employer provided housing/kitchen facilities are available for employees who are unable to reasonably return to their place of residence the same day.
Employer will furnish cooking facilities with working appliances, hot water, a place to prepare food at no cost to employees occupying employer-provided housing. Employees will purchase their own food and prepare their own meals. In the event that it becomes necessary for the employer to provide 3 meals a day to the workers, the employer will charge $15.46 per day, or the current allowable charge as designated by the DOL. All breaks and lunches will be subject to local, state, and federal regulations.
Employer will use appropriate vehicles to transport workers occupying employer-provided housing. The workers will be picked up at the housing locations; the time of pick-up depends on variable factors, such as weather, field location, job duties, etc. They will be returned to the housing in the same manner after their shift is done; time varies depending on the same factors. Vehicle to be used will be provided by the fixed-site employer. Employer will offer transportation to and from employer provided housing to the work site, at no cost to workers who qualify. Employer will provide one weekly trip to workers to purchase groceries.
Transportation costs to the job site for domestic workers from outside the local commuting distance of the job site will be reimbursed by the employer after 50% of the contract period. Transportation costs from the job site to workers’ home will be provided to those domestic workers that complete the entire contract period.
Employer guarantees to offer employment for the hourly equivalent of 3/4 or 75% of the workdays of the work contract beginning with the first day of work.
